School Board dropping the nuke

According to a Facebook post by the Coalfield Progress, the school board has voted hold a public hearing on March 30 for the purpose of closing Appalachia, Pound and St. Paul and moving those students to Powell Valley, JJ Kelly and Coeburn.

This should be interesting...and possibly expensive for the taxpayers of Wise Co.

but if Wise is so bad off that they need a new school why put those students from Pound in such a run down place

The schools would be renovated before they moved in pretty sure.

Renovation would happen, but most likely around the students and during the summers. I don't know the particulars, but I'm sure the class of 2011 will be the last graduating class at each of the three smaller schools.

wasn't the last time this was brought up it was going to be the NEXT school year? I know they have sports schedules made already but that would be another 2 year wait for what? I could see it if they were building new schools but I don't see them keeping the other schools open till renovations are done but then again I could be totaly wrong. like I said, it is going to be fun to watch.
as for me I should keep my nose out of it as mine is in the Norton School System but if they act like this why in the world would we even think about joining that mess?

Not sure wht will end up happening when the dust settles but IMHO the BOS is getting what it wanted......next step is for them to build the new schools because since the hold up was voteing for consolidation......everyone will be behind new schools now that the consolidation is no longer an issue.....(Turns out Basham was a genuis.....wonder how much money would have been saved if the county had bit the bullet and went with his plan back then)

Well I got there at about 6:30. Here's what I got from what I listened to, I was writing down some notes and missed somethings, but I believe I caught most of the bigger things. Kilgore proposed the what was said in the OP, to close those three down, renovate, then moved those kids in. There were also several substitute motions too, Hutchinson proposed it and Perry had actually set up a nice PP for it which from what I understood that 5 schools were to receive renovations, while Kelly receives a new school - but this means that ALL 6 SCHOOLS stay open. That motion was voted down 5-3. Then Betty whined some more and made a motion to table it all until the 30th(just her normal delaying tactic) which failed.

So on March 30th, they will attempt to go forward with this plan of closing 3 and moving them into the remaining renovated schools. The three stooges mostly acted civil tonight, can't say they were their normal selves, which was only because of those substitute motions. But that March 30th meeting, being a week before the special election? That's going to be ****ing insane, I think they should sale it on PPV.

Also curious to see what's going to be said/happen at the BOS meetings on the 3rd/10th.

So after the 30th meeting when the plan is presented to the public I assume that it could still be blocked at any time before the new school year actualy starts (Probably a drop dead date before that as reorganization of some sort would be needed)

On a side note I wonder when the other area schools football teams that are scheduled to play any of the WC teams hit the panic button and make last min changes to there schedules

The football schedule issue will be a slight problem mainly felt by the D1 schools. Burton will be able to pick up other Cumberland teams pretty easily if they want to IMO as they lose a game with St. Paul. You may have what happened when Lee first formed too with teams playing each other more than once in the regular season to get 10 games in.
